Jennifer Irvine's Warm Poached California Prunes With Yogurt...


Guest post:  Jennifer Irvine's says "These poached California Prunes are unlike any you’ve ever tried before – fragrant, citrusy, smokey prunes served with a sharp, smooth yoghurt. But there’s no reason to restrict yourself to breakfast – these make for a wonderful afternoon snack, or a delicious dessert! The following recipe makes enough for a serving for 2 people, but I usually multiply the quantities, and store the leftovers in a sealed jar in the fridge where they’ll last about a week. Or a couple of days, depending on how often you reach for them!"

Homemade Garden Ideas : Bunting..


I love to see colourful bunting. It looks beautiful blowing in the wind on hot summer days. As well as looking great outside in your garden, it looks adorable in the kitchen. 

Draped all over a Welsh dresser!? 

Not that I have a Welsh dresser yet but I'm working on the idea of getting an old one and painting it white with chalk paint and giving it shabby chic look.. 


The good thing about bunting is that you can create your own style, shapes and pick of fabrics to make your own unique style. Added bonus is they are not to difficult to make.

Over the weekend I have been working with Dr. Oetker on a really fun baking project. I am so excited to finally share my post.

Jennifer Irvine's California Prune Breakfast Detox Smoothie...

Jennifer Irvine say's "A fabulous breakfast smoothie that takes only minutes to prepare and is designed to help kick-start your day. This smoothie contains rolled oats – but there’s no need to pre-soak these. We simply blend them and then add everything else separately. What I love about this recipe is that all the best breakfast ingredients are combined in a quick tasty drink. The oats are wholegrains that are slowly digested during the morning; the banana is a source of potassium, which helps support muscle function; the calcium in the milk, together with the vitamin K in the prunes all help maintain normal bone health. Chia seeds are a source of ‘good for you’ unsaturated fats and the fabulous, moreish prunes are high in potassium, so do all sorts from supporting normal functioning nervous system, to maintaining normal blood pressure. And because prunes contribute to normal bowel function*, this smoothie is a great detox. But really all you need to know is that it tastes delicious! [*the beneficial effect is obtained with 100g/day of prunes]"

Healthy Crunch Bars...


Today I am sharing a recipe from CHOC Chick. Healthy Crunch Bars – Suitable for Vegans, Gluten and Dairy Free.


Ingredients:
  • 100g cacao butter
  • 6 tablespoons cacao powder
  • 3 tablespoons Sweet Freedom
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 100g biscuits, crushed (digestive or similar)
  • 200g dried fruit and seeds (we used dried pears, cranberries, apricots and pumpkin and sesame seeds)


Directions:
  1. First, prepare the topping: slice the dried fruit into bite-sized pieces and mix with the seeds.
  2. Line a tin or container with baking paper (one about the size of a Victoria sandwich tin works well) and set aside.
  3. Crush your biscuits if you haven’t already.
  4. In a bowl over a pan of simmering water (bain marie) melt the cacao butter. When completely liquid remove from the heat, whisk in the cacao powder, cinnamon and then the Sweet Freedom. Continue to whisk until fully combined.
  5. Stir in the crushed biscuits and half of the fruit and nut mixture. Mix well until everything is coated in chocolate.
  6. Press the mixture into the lined tin/container and top with the remaining fruit and nuts, pressing them down slightly to help them stick.
  7. Chill until set, slice and enjoy!

Berry Overnight Oat is voted as one of, 'Results With Lucy' best breakfast recipes. They are super easy to make and a great, nutritious way to start your day.

Ingredients :
  • 40g oats
  • 250ml of milk, or milk alternative (try almond or hazelnut milk, it’s extra yummy!)
  • 1 small handful of blueberries
  • 1 small handful of sliced strawberries
  • 1 small handful of raspberries
  • (OR 2 handfuls of a frozen berry mix)
  • 2 tbsps of chia seeds


Method:
  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Leave in the fridge overnight and serve the next morning! It’s as simple as that.
Tips:
  • Need something to take with you as a an ‘on the go' breakfast or prefer smoothies? You can blend all of the ingredients above to make into a delicious smoothie!

I saved this pretty little jug from going to the charity shop when a relation died. I have been wondering what to use it for them yesterday I thought how nice it would look with my flowers in!!

Primula 'shake things up' Shots...


Primula 'shake things up' Shots. If you're avoiding starchy crackers (or wheat altogether!) alternate your cheese hit with sticks of peak-season fruit and veg.


Dunk away!

Ingredients (Serves 6):

  • 150g tube of Primula Cheese – any flavour
  • 1 carrot, 1 celery stick and ½ a cucumber all cut into fine strips
  • Splash of milk



Method:

  • In a small mixing bowl loosen your favourite Primula cheese with a little milk to resemble the texture of a dip.
  • Pour into shot glasses, approximately a third full.
  • Place a few strips of each vegetable into the dip and serve.
